Field Notes
User Behavior

Search intent is becoming search conversation. The query is the beginning of a dialogue.

One query rarely ends the session anymore. Users refine, compare, and challenge the answer inside the same interface.

That reshapes what a 'landing page' does: it has to hold up under follow-up questions, not just the initial one.

The multi-turn assumption

Answer engines assume conversation. The first response is a hypothesis, not a verdict. Users routinely follow up with 'compare X to Y', 'what about for a small team', 'is there a cheaper option'.

Pages designed for a single-shot query lose the second and third turn to sources that anticipate the follow-ups.
